# Connecting via FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) lets you transfer files between your computer and your hosting account using an FTP client such as FileZilla, Cyberduck, or WinSCP.

## FTP Connection Details

| Setting | Value |
| - | - |
| **Host** | `server-name.digitalfyre.net` |
| **Port** | `21` (FTP) or `22` (SFTP — recommended) |
| **Username** | Your Plesk username or a dedicated FTP user |
| **Password** | Your Plesk or FTP user password |
| **Protocol** | SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) — preferred over plain FTP |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Use SFTP (port 22) instead of plain FTP wherever possible. SFTP encrypts your connection and credentials. Plain FTP transmits data in clear text.

## Creating a Dedicated FTP User

You can create a separate FTP user with access limited to a specific folder — useful for giving a developer or designer access without sharing your main Plesk credentials.

**1. Go to Websites & Domains**

Log in to Plesk and click **Websites & Domains** in the left sidebar.

**2. Open FTP Access**

Find your domain and click **FTP Access**.

**3. Add an FTP Account**

Click **Add FTP Account**.

**4. Fill in the Details**

Enter a username, password, and set the **Home directory** to restrict access to a specific folder.

**5. Save**

Click **OK**. The FTP user is created and ready to use.

## Recommended FTP Client

[FileZilla](https://filezilla-project.org/) is a free, cross-platform FTP/SFTP client. When connecting, select **SFTP** as the protocol and use port `22`.
