# Email Forwarding

Email Forwarding is a free add-on that lets you forward emails sent to addresses at your domain to another email account. It is available from the **Addons** page in your domain's management.

## Enabling the Addon

**1. Navigate to Addons**

Open your domain's management page and click **Addons** in the left sidebar.

**2. Order the Addon**

Under **Email Forwarding**, click **Order** (\$0.00).

Once enabled, you can create forwarding rules that route incoming email at your domain to an external email address.

## How It Works

You define a mailbox name (the part before the @) and a target email address. For example, forwarding `hello@yourdomain.com` to `your.real.email@gmail.com` means any email sent to `hello@yourdomain.com` arrives in your Gmail inbox.

## Requirement: Default Nameservers

> [!WARNING]
>
> Email Forwarding only works when your domain uses the **default (registrar) nameservers**. If you have changed your nameservers to Cloudflare, DigitalFyre's DNS Manager, or any other provider, email forwarding will not function.

## Reliability Limitations

| Issue | Details |
| - | - |
| **SPF failures** | The forwarding server is not authorized to send on behalf of the original sender's domain |
| **DKIM failures** | Forwarding may modify the message, breaking the signature |
| **Deliverability** | Receiving servers may flag or reject forwarded messages due to failed authentication |

Forwarded emails may land in spam or be rejected entirely.

## Recommended Alternatives

* **DigitalFyre Email Hosting** — Full mailbox hosting with Mailcow or Open-Xchange, with proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC support
* **Cloudflare Email Routing** — Free email forwarding with better deliverability (requires Cloudflare nameservers)
* **Contact support** — Reach out to `support@digitalfyre.com` to discuss email forwarding options that maintain proper authentication
