# DNS Host Record Management

DNS Host Record Management is a free addon that enables basic DNS record management through the domain registrar's DNS system. It is available from the **Addons** page on your domain's management page.

## Enabling the Addon

**1. Navigate to Addons**

Open your domain's management page and click **Addons** in the left sidebar.

**2. Order the Addon**

Under **DNS Host Record Management**, click **Order** (\$0.00).

Once enabled, you can manage basic DNS records for your domain through the registrar's interface.

## When to Use This

Use DNS Host Record Management only if you need to keep your domain on the **default (registrar) nameservers** — for example, if you are using the [Email Forwarding](https://docs.digitalfyre.com/domains/addons/email-forwarding.md) addon, which requires default nameservers.

## Recommended Alternative

For most use cases, the [DNS Manager](https://docs.digitalfyre.com/client-portal/dns/dns-manager.md) in the customer portal sidebar is the better option:

| Feature | DNS Host Record Management | DNS Manager |
| - | - | - |
| Record types | Basic | A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, NS, CAA, AFSDB, DNAME |
| Record limits | Limited | 200 per zone, 20 per type |
| Network | Registrar DNS | AnyCAST DNS |
| Non-DigitalFyre domains | No | Yes |

To use the DNS Manager instead, point your domain's nameservers to `ns1-4.digitalfyre.net` and add the domain in the DNS Manager. See [DNS Manager](https://docs.digitalfyre.com/client-portal/dns/dns-manager.md).
